Cacao is said to be hormone balancing and works to boost serotonin levels in the body. It also contains compounds that can lower your overall level of cortisol, otherwise known as the stress hormone.

When it’s that time of the month, or just anytime I’m craving a little self soothing, here is recipe I use:

  • ¼ cup of almond/coconut milk
  • 1 small teaspoon of cacao powder
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon
  • Sprinkle of coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)

Fill cup with hot water, transfer all ingredients to a small pot, heat, stir together, simmer for a couple of minutes, transfer back to mug.
